New Yorkers, want a banana with your lunch? Washingtonians, how bout a nice fresh pineapple for dessert? If the food choice opponents at Chefs Collaborative (CC) have their way, you won’t get either one. CC founding member and Boston resident Peter Berley says, “If we get strawberries from New Zealand in February, what did it take to get that strawberry to Boston? Not only does that berry not taste very good but there’s a great expense to that berry that is hidden.” Berley says you should only buy locally, organically grown produce in season. For Bostonians in the Fall, that would mean broccoli, kale, turnips, cabbages, and hard squash. Yuck. Pass the strawberries.
