Chef-proprietor Chris Douglass of Icarus restaurant in Boston has started making reading a part of his restaurant’s dining experience. Douglass provides diners with books, many from his fellow Chefs Collaborative members, on politically correct cuisine, i.e. cooking only with organic, seasonal, and local ingredients.
We would assume that Douglass is probably featuring “Bitter Harvest” by fellow Chefs Collaborative member Anne Cooper. Cooper’s book provides many examples of how Chefs Collaborative is perpetuating unfounded fears of corporate agriculture and biotechnology advances. The Los Angeles Times says of “Bitter Harvest,” “In their bombardment, they fail to make one convincing point about one subject. Rather, they serve us anxiety pie.” (“Anxiety Pie,” 10/11/00)
