“This is a safety warning. You are going to die. Sorry, but it’s the truth. Can’t tell you when or how, so there is nothing to be done about it – which makes this warning just as useless as almost all the others that besiege us every day,” laments the UK’s Independent over today’s nanny culture.
According to Dr. Peter Marsh of the Social Issues Research Center in Oxford, all this nanny nonsense is unwarranted: “Life is the safest it has ever been in the entire history of our evolution. There is less disease, we are better fed and better protected, our environment is safer. It is just a shame we feel compelled to invent fanciful and whimsical fears to compensate for the lack of real danger.”
Dr. Steven Bratman thinks the nanny “fixation on eating healthy food” is so ridiculous that he’s written a book about it, “Health Food Junkies: Overcoming the Obsession with Healthful Eating.”
