A Self-Cleaning Pig Sty?

We’ve told you about RFK, Jr.’s “Water Keeper Alliance,” the group that’s been suing large-scale hog farming companies over the supposed damage that their livestock runoff creates in waterways. It appears that their prayers have been answered, but in a way that’s likely to get a mixed reaction from these nannies. Researchers at the University of Guelph in Ontario are working on a genetically improved pig – one that would produce cleaner manure. This can be achieved, they say, by engineering an enzyme that automatically breaks down the phosphates in a hog’s diet. The desired results? Cleaner pig waste, healthier animals, and (hopefully) an end to anti-meat activists’ complaints.
