The Chicago Tribune took special notice this weekend of the much-publicized Federal egg regulations which go into effect in September. “If you eat one raw egg a day for 55 years, you might get sick–once. But thank goodness the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is here to save us from worrisome egg peril.” Aside from the Chicago piece, the Washington Times ran a balanced story on the issue; also, the American Egg Board responded to last week’s media hysteria with some basic facts about food safety, and Noting that American deaths from egg-borne salmonella are markedly down in recent years, the Trib notes that, “you take a greater risk driving to the store to purchase those eggs. That risk more than doubles if you drive to the store to purchase those eggs during a lightning storm.”
