Biodevastation Activists Converge On San Deigo

Hundreds of misinformed activists, “some dressed as ears of corn or genetically engineered tomatoes” (according to the Associated Press), began their protests this weekend. The action is aimed at the biotech industry, whose annual conference is taking place in San Diego. Local farmers, many of whom had nothing to do with the conference, showed up to counter-demonstrate against the organized activists. “We let the protests define our work for far too long,” said one, explaining the need for biotech farming methods. “We’re able to do more with less – less chemicals and more environmentally friendly.” Even the casual passers-by seemed to have a better grip on reality than the demonstrators. One spectator had this take on the spectacle: “I have no problem with their right to protest, but they have no clue what they’re talking about. People are starving. We so desperately need technology to step up and feed the world.”
