Aussies see ‘deliberate’ biotech misinformation campaign

An Australian Associated Press (AAP) story says that fear of food technology among the general public is “being increased by deliberate misinformation campaigns.” Biotechnology Australia, a government science agency, said that people want more information about genetically improved foods. But instead, the technology’s opponents are “deliberately playing on people’s fears rather than trying to explain the issues surrounding the technology.” One Biotechnology Australia spokesman told the AAP that his agency’s most recent study had found “many concerns about gene technology were based on misunderstandings and myths.” (no link available)
