The forces against food choice are rallying. With the federal government gearing up to fight the so-called obesity epidemic, public health expert Dr. Lawrence W. Green recently told an Atlanta audience about a future that may not be far off, “where health-care leaders, armed with a good dose of hitch-up-your-pants confidence after landing a massive settlement with Big Tobacco, gear up to take on their next enemy — Big Food… Rumblings from public health officials indicate they will tear a page from their attack on tobacco and go directly after the multibillion-dollar food industry.”
It’s a strike against obesity, but also against personal choice, with government food and health regulators openly talking about “tough policy changes directed at the choices individuals make about what they eat.”
