If you can’t say something nice, say it on the Internet. Greenpeace co-founder Patrick Moore left the group, saying the movement he loved had been seized “by extremists who have hijacked it, often to further agendas that have nothing to do with ecology.” The rational-minded Moore also warns that eco-extremists are now targeting genetically improved foods, influencing debate with “arguments that have no basis in fact or logic.”
So how do Moore’s old allies respond? Not with logic, but with lunacy. They’ve set up a website calling Moore a “lap dog of industry” and a “megalomaniacal crackpot,” and even branding him as worse than Judas Iscariot. What’s their motivation? Well, they are selling “Patrick Moore is a Big Fat Liar” T-shirts at 20 bucks a pop.
The site includes a comment page, and one self-described environmentalist says it better than we could: issues “should be discussed in a factual manner and not lowered to the level of a personal vendetta against an individual.”
