If you’ve ever looked in the bottom shelf of a bookstore magazine rack, you might be familiar with Adbusters Magazine, an activist bimonthly devoted to “toppling existing power structures” by “culture jamming” (a polite euphemism for anti-corporate monkeywrenching). The anti-capitalist, anti-consumer Canadian group behind this publication is also well-known for promoting “Buy Nothing Day” and replacing the stars on Old Glory with corporate logos.
So we were pleasantly surprised to learn that a current on-line contest sponsored by the “Adbusters Media Foundation” will give away $3,000 in cash prizes. Apparently, even the self-anointed preventers of the “erosion of our physical and cultural environments by commercial forces” have some capitalist leanings after all. Come on in, guys. The water’s great.
