At the behest of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), pop star “Pink” is weighing in against Australian sheep farmers who trim their animals’ skin (in an operation called “mulesing”) to protect them from painful insect infestations. But Pink, best known for her apparently eponymous tune “Stupid Girls,” isn’t feeling much love from Down Under. As PETA prepares to defend itself in court over its less-than-ethical opposition to Aussie wool, Australian Member of Parliament Bill Heffernan fired back in today’s Melbourne Herald Sun:
You get somebody — and I’m not referring to her — but you get people who spend their time plaiting their armpits, smoking pot and sniffing coke and become world experts. I’m not alleging she does any of that; I’ve got no idea who she is. I’ve never heard of her.
This morning in Sydney, by the way, the Daily Telegraph ran a photograph of Pink wearing “a woolen cap.”
