Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer spoke on Wednesday at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy. He discussed recent “grim” news reports on food prices, consumption patterns, and global malnutrition. According to one Cambridge student who attended the talk, Shafer said real solutions to these problems are only hindered by oversimplified attacks and unsubstantiated vilification of specific foods or new technologies:

It is "time to not allow political and social issues to run the show" in lieu of science. "Focusing only on risks and not benefits is the riskiest."
