Business owners across the country are making their opinions known when it comes to the faltering review website TripAdvisor.com. A survey that we commissioned for our website www.BadTripAdvisors.com has found that small businesses are giving TripAdvisor a 1-star review.
An overwhelming majority, 80%, of those surveyed believe that Trip Advisor could be easily abused to harm a business while a further 82.3% think that Trip Advisor should incorporate the small step of providing a receipt for verifying that a review is real.
It’s no surprise that the site has lost tons of credibility since it had to pay $600,000 in fines to European regulators for fake reviews against businesses in Italy. In that case, TripAdvisor had to delete 280 fake reviews. What little credibility they had left from that incident has dissipated after it came out that TripAdvisor partnered with the radical animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to de-list popular animal attractions from the site.
It’s no wonder that TripAdvisor missed its earnings estimate for yet another quarter.
