Watching the President of the United States has long been its own cottage industry. Questions like what kind of underwear he prefers, the movies he watches, and how he spends his vacation are the object of fascination for people the world over. And of course there’s the persistent curiosity about what he likes to eat. President Bush answered that question on Wednesday.
Before he sat down to a lunch of freshwater prawns, porcini mushroom risotto, beef tenderloin, asparagus, carrots, and peach melba with lemon pound cake for dessert, the President dismissed the unfounded concerns of the anti-scientific anarchists and self-interested organic farmers running around Sacramento trying to demonize crop biotechnology with a simple one-liner:
“Let’s go eat some genetically-modified food for lunch.”
Bravo, Mr. President.
