The radical Rifkinites from the Organic Consumers Association are trying to stop any and all marketing of irradiated foods. The group calls on its supporters to call Hawaii Pride, Kraft, Wal-Mart, Colorado Boxed Bee, IBP, and Excel and tell them that they are not going to buy irradiated food because “irradiation has not been proven safe.” Apparently these nannies missed the fact that the World Health Organization, American Medical Association, United Nations, and the U.S. Public Health Service have all endorsed irradiation as a harmless way to improve food safety.
