Despite irradiated food products being hailed for their “substantial benefit to food safety and food availability” by the World Health Organization and despite support for irradiated food by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture, a New Jersey state assembly committee approved a bill placing a five-year moratorium on their sale.
