Today a handful of leading nanny groups released a set of guidelines for the “sustainable” production of coffee. The Consumers Choice Council, National Wildlife Federation, and Rainforest Alliance (to name a few), are trying to alter the balance of trade through the use of enviro-buzzwords and specious arguments about labor and free trade. The bottom line: they want to force Americans to buy and brew only “certified” sustainable coffee. It may cost more, but at least the enviro-nannies’ global consciences will be eased a bit.
