Close your eyes and think of a pizza. Did you need the government’s help?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is revising regulations on what constitutes a frozen “meat pizza.” Under the current rules, “a meat pizza must have a crust, cheese, a tomato-based sauce and at least 10 percent to 12 percent meat by weight.” Now they’re revising the rules because — surprise! — some pizzas contain different toppings. This is your tax dollars at work.
And it’s also an example of more unnecessary government meddling. Frozen food producers and their customers can decide for themselves what to eat. Says one pizza chef: “What you put on top is what tastes good and what people like to eat. That’s it.”
