Militant anti-genetic improvement activist Jose Bove, who led a mob in destroying a McDonald’s restaurant under construction in France in 1999, “defends” his actions in a new book. Bove writes he was “shocked that we were being treated as criminals,” as his squad of vandals “explained to police in advance that the purpose of the rally was to dismantle the McDonald’s.” What exactly did Bove’s merry band do? “People, including kids, began taking down partitions, some doors, fuse boxes and some tiles.” Bove notes he was “quite unprepared” for the negative media and public reaction — after all, “it was a beautiful day; everyone was having a good time.”
