Industry-funded obesity researcher and statistician David Allison is responsible for the deeply flawed study which concluded obesity kills 300,000 in the U.S. each year. That was the basis for the equally flawed (and since retracted) claim from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that obesity kills 400,000 annually. Allison has worked for dozens of pharmaceutical and weight-loss companies that profit from hyping the health riks of obesity. And in a recent presentation, the financially-conflicted Allison actually offered his own truth-in-advertising visual: While this graphic is no joke, there’s no reason not to have fun with it: Suggest your own caption and email it to [email protected]. The best suggestion will get a CCF bumper sticker!
