The American Dietetic Association reports in a recent journal article that animal protein (meat) should be a part of your diet if you have, or are at a risk of having, kidney stones. Previous conventional wisdom had held that a meatless diet would lower the concentration of urinary calcium, but now it appears that plant foods actually provide the most important chemical components of kidney stones. Linda Massey, who supervised the research, told the Copley News Service that “this research should give hope to individuals with, or at risk of developing, kidney stones that they don’t have to shift to a vegetarian diet.” (a link to this report is not available)
