Legislative lemmings in California may be the next to run off the trans fat cliff, but not every politician is eager to follow. On Tuesday the state Assembly passed a bill to ban shortenings like Crisco and margarine from restaurants, bakeries, and delicatessens. But yesterday, Assemblyman Alan Nakanishi (R-Stockton) told the Associated Press that he’s growing weary this type of “big brother” legislation. “What’s next," Nakanishi asked. "A ban on ice cream, sugar and chocolate cake?”
